![]() Shirley Wong (Hong Kong ) [See the below for Chinese translation.] I enrolled in Tokyo’s graduate school in April, 2005. Therefore, I searched over the internet and found Sari san’s website. Besides, Sari san helped me pass my grade one Japanese proficiency test
and taught me a lot Time really flies. I have had lessons with Sari san for nearly one and
a half year. Now, I am going back to my country. The recording clips of our lessons
become the most precious memories I am looking forward to continuing having classes with Sari san after I
come back to Hong Kong.
![]() Aaron Schiff (New zealand) I took Japanese lessons with Sari-san for 3 months. I knew almost no Japanese before, and she helped me to improve a lot in a relatively short time. Sari-san made the classes very fun and enjoyable and I always looked forward to the lessons. She is very hardworking and prepares a lot of materials and things for her students. Her English is excellent and she could always answer my strange questions about Japanese language and grammar. Overall I think she is an excellent teacher and she is very kind and patient with her students. But she wouldn't be too easy on you either, so you always have motivation to study and do your homework! Above all, I felt that Sari-san enjoys teaching and really wants her students to learn something. I wish all teachers could have such a good attitude as she does. Also I think Sari-san's class is extremely good value for money. The quality of her classes is as good or better than you would get in a big school, and the price that she charges for one-on-one lessons is very reasonable. I highly recommend Sari-san to anyone who is interested in taking Japanese lessons in Tokyo. ![]() Michelle Zeng (Australia) One of my purposes for coming to Japan was to improve my Japanese. Although I had studied Japanese back in High School, I had forgotten most of it. Sari was recommended to me from a friend who was also taking her lessons at the time. I have been taking lessons from Sari for about 10 months now Sari puts a lot of preparation and enthusiasm into her lessons, She is a very fun and open-minded person, but yet at the same time, She speaks English well, so her explanations were always easy to understand. I intend to continue to study Japanese with Sari (through Skype) Sari is by far the best Japanese teacher I have ever had. ![]() Michael PINSKER (Austria) I came to Japan as a postdoc mathematician; having learnt several languages before (English, Latin, Danish, Russian, Czech), Japanese language with its obvious difficulties was a new challenge for me. Since I had no recommendations as to which teacher or school to choose, I took the cheapest I could find and ended up with Sari-chan. It turned out that the teacher could not have been any better than Sari:
she is extremely dedicated,
competent in teaching both Japanese grammar and communication, she speaks fluent English (and, as I heard when she confused me with another student of hers, French), she is funny, lovely, and above all, a terrific Karaoke singer. She even heard and understood my abstract linguistic observations which really nobody is interested in. No matter how much Dr. Snack, the friend I took the lessons with, ate, she would always serve us more snacks (such as the delicious Koala-maachi) and tea. After one year of lessons partially with Sari, partially with
volunteers,
I easily passed Level 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Some of my most enjoyable moments in Japan were in my Japanese classes with Sari, and let's face it, this is not what one would expect of a language course. ![]() Nick Schutgens (Holland) If you are thinking of taking lessons with Sari Kondo, I can only say: go for it. I have had several language teachers in Japan, but Kondo-san is the best. She is practical, dedicated, speaks English and French well, and clearly has a lot of experience teaching Japanese. She also is a fun person and we had many interesting (and sometimes hilarious) discussions about life in Japan. For 8 months, I had two lessons weekly, each lasting two hours. As study text, we used (and finished) "Minna no nihongo I", which I enjoyed very much. Now that I have returned to my own country, I will continue studying the Japanese language. Sari, much more than any other teacher, showed me that Japanese is an interesting language and not nearly as difficult to learn as many foreigners imagine. ![]() Andreas H. (Switzerland) I have come to Japan for a year, but ended up staying only six months, and I wanted to make use of that time to learn at least a little bit of Japanese. I was put in touch with Sari through a centralised website and we started a series of individual classes. I had studied a bit on my own before coming, but did not know very much. We decided to follow "Minna no nihongo", which can be somewhat dry, but provides a systematic and well structured method for learning Japanese. Sari was always very well prepared and made learning Japanese fun. Her explanations were always very clear and she'd investigated whenever I had some special questions, which happened quite often, as I am the curious type! After some time, I would look forward to Japanese class more like I would to a meeting with a friend than to a "mandatory class". I regret that I had to leave Japan after six months, because I am confident that with a few months more of intensive Japanese study with Sari, I would have become quite fluent. Andreas Heinen
I strongly recommend that you study the Japanese Language with Sari Kondo.
As an English Teacher to ESL students, I decided to learn Japanese
because I found that it is essential to the learning process that the teacher be able to speak the native language of the student. (If you are a native English speaker studying Japanese with a teacher who speaks little or no English, you will find it frustrating, if not impossible, to ask questions. Even when you can ask a question, because of unavoidable misunderstandings, the answers may be misunderstood, or worse, incorrect.) In Sari's class you CAN ask questions as they arise and you will ALWAYS get helpful answers because she speaks English very well and has many years of experience helping students. Indeed, she encourages inquiry and discussion. She reviewed my school textbooks on her own time and pointed out many examples of outdated Japanese language usage and other errors. Make no mistake, there are plenty of people offering Japanese lessons
in Japan,
but there are few Japanese teachers with the experience, ability, personality, and enthusiasm of Sari Kondo. |
