This table tells you...

• In the column "Software", you see the name of the software and a brief description of its functionality. Click it and you see (a bit) detailed descriptions.
• "MARM package" is the binary package of the software intended for use on your EPOC device. If you want to run the software on your Psion/Ericsson/Oregon/GeoFOX machines, this is what you need, I guess.
• "WINS pakcage" is the binary package of the software intended for use on WINS emulator. WINS emulator is a software to let you run EPOC on your Windows PC. You can get a copy of WINS emulator by joining Psion Teklogix Partner Program for free:

• "Source" is the source code of the software. Sometimes, when the software is really small, I prefer to include the source in MARM package rather than making a separate source package. This is only for developers.
• "Date" tells you when the program was last updated. Something new is written in red.

XJMail, a Japanese emailer for EPOC Updated2003/Jan/02 XJMail 1.31 was released.

What's XJMail

XJMail is a flexible email client for non-Unicode EPOC operating system, released under a BSD-like license. Though it's mainly targeted for Japanese users, it should be relatively easy to localize it for any other language, and of course you can use US-ASCII without any modification. As far as the authors know, it runs on Series5 /5MX /5MX Pro /Revo /RevoPlus /Mako /Series7 /NetBook /Geofox ONE /MC218 /WINS.

The latest "official" version is V1.31.

What's new in Ver. 1.31

• In 1.30, when a mail draft had a line beginning with "dcc:" in the body while there was no dcc: line in header, XJMail deleted the dcc: line in the body, and in the worst case XJMail crashed. This was now fixed.
• Some reported that the Japanese email sent from XJMail was not displayed correctly on new clamshell Linux Zaurus SL-C700. This seems to be caused by a bug of email client of Zaurus. Some of XJMail users reported this to Sharp, and this is going to be fixed in Zaurus in the future anyway. However, since it is easy to modify XJMail to generate a "SL-C700 friendly" message, we did that.
• Support for "Shift+Ctrl" function of macro5.
• Importer documentation importer.txt (in Japanese) was improved. Also, in the source package, now you can find an example code for importer.
• A (tiny bit) better English help file.

Features

• Various features to reduce your downloading time/ phone cost, all of which are user-customizable.
  • You can select and download the mails either automatically (which the standard EMail cannot do) or manually (in the same way as the standard EMail).
  • If you wish, you can tell XJMail either to automatically leave the large mails on server without downloading, or to download only several lines just to see what's in that mail. Number of lines to download is user-definable, so is the critical size of the "large" mail.
  • You can assign any of the following operations to each of the emails on the server individually (when you use automatic-download feature, each individual email is proccessed according to the user preferences):
    • Download the whole message, then leave on the server
    • Download the whole message, then delete from the server
    • Download only several lines, then leave on the server.
    • Simply delete from the server without downloading.
    • Do nothing, just leave.
• You can configure XJMail to automatically disconnect from the network after receiving/sending emails. Also it's possible to "connect to the net, receive mails, send all of the mails that are ready, then disconnect from the net" automatically.
• XJMail supports various authentication options.
  • APOP
  • SMTP AUTH (CRAM-MD5 and LOGIN)
  • POP before SMTP
• Mulitipart mails are handled properly. Especially, mulitiply-nested multipart mails can be viewed correctly without problem (as far as the memory of your EPOC device allows). For example, you can view
  
  • an email with an attachment (which itself is an email with an attachment (which itself is an email with an attachemnt (which itself is an email with an attachment (.............))))
  and so on.
• For editing email drafts, you can use any of your favorite text editor for EPOC.
• For viewing emails, you can use the builtin viewer of XJMail, or you can use your favorite editor/viewer. Furthermore, you can use an external editor from the builtin viewer of XJMail by pressing Shift+Return.
• Supports fully user-definable multi accounts.
• XJMail allows an arbitrary-structured folder (ex. folders inside folders inside folders inside.......), so the user has more degrees of freedom to store their emails.
• XJMail can be used with or without UniFEP, a commercial software to allow users to use Unicode on non-Unicode EPOC devices.
• Mail storage format for XJMail is completely open to public.
• Runs on both ER3 and ER5.
• XJMail supports plug-in type modules called "importer". Importers with various functionality are developed/distributed by several developers:
  • Importers developed by persons other than ktkawabe are listed in the table above.
  • ktkawabe is distributing importer for importing mails from ER3 MessageSuite into XJMail.
  • You can read the documentation for importer module online (sorry, in Japanese): importer.txt.

What do I need to install, other than XJMail package?

• Japanese font jiskan.gdr developed by Mr. Koyama (Visit googo's Psion Search http://www.wotakara.com/googo/navi/navi.cgi . Even if you cannot read Japanese, you should still be able to find the words "JMemo&KEdit Font" on the left side of the page. Just click and that's it. )
  • As of Dec 2002, it seems that Mr. Koyama has withdrawn his web page http://antenna.infocity.co.jp/antenna_series5.htm that originally contained the font.
• Users of Series 5 Classic/ Geofox One/ Osaris have to install Message Suite.
• Text editor to edit mail drafts. Any editor will do as far as it can be executed by other apps specifying the file to open. Symbian text editor, which is downloadable from Symbian web page, is one of such editors. http://www.symbian.com/developer/downloads/archive.html

XJMail public beta

Other than the official release, we may release the public beta version here. When new features are added, bugs are fixed etc., that version is first put here for a test purpose. It might be that you cannot find any description for the new features. You may find some incompatibility between the document and the program. We cannot assure that the beta will be released as the "public" version in the future. Please do understand that this is only a beta release. If you understand, you can use it as far as you do not infringe XJM_COPY.TXT (in Japanese, an English translation is XJM_COPY.ENG).

1.32.1 beta is a bug-fix release of 1.32 beta. Though there're several things (including minor ones) fixed, the serious ones are the followings:

• When automatically downloading a header-only email (the one that doesn't have even a zero-byte body), XJMail crushed. This has never affected the users who prefer to download manually.
• When XJMail for some reason crushes while downloading, at least in theory it was possible that XJMail fails to save the downloaded data in a secure place. This should be extremely rare, and we have never heard of anybody (including ourselves) who has suffered from this bug. Anyway now it's fixed.

Improvements in 1.32.1 beta over 1.31 are:

• Added Features
  • As for text that is NOT text/plain (e.g. text/html etc.), in most of the cases you can select whether to view as a text or to save.
  • "Allow Cc: to myself" setting was added.
  • xjm_hlp_eng.html revised (thanks to Mike Kintzios).
  • When you're in draft/out, after you modify the draft the listview is refreshed to reflect the new content.
  • Opera is supported as a help browser.
  • Ini file parser got a bit more tolerant. XJMail is more robust against the incorrect modification of folder names in ini file caused by curious users.
• Major Bugs fixed
  • XJMail used to handle nested embedding of multipart body in a multipart message only when the embedded entity was itself mutlipart message (Content-Type: message/RFC822). Now hopefully any multipart (e.g. Content-Type: multipart/mixed etc.) are handled sensibly.
  • Part comprising only empty lines caused USER:21 panic.
  • In some cases the Out and Draft folder were case-sensitive where they shouldn't be.
• No real harm, but anyway fixed
  • After doing "Both" (POP and SMTP), or doing "Send the whole OUT folder" and then moving to the Out folder, "index file corrupt" was reported while technically it was not corrupt.
  • When the user tried to send a draft containing invalid characters, XJMail complained about that (correct behavior) and then "Not enough memory. Files are not sent." message was displayed no matter how much memory was free (incorrect information).
  • When the user tried to send a draft with an empty "Cc:", "RCPT TO <> failed" warning was reported.

• This is really a simple and typical text editor. Sorry, only for UniFEP V2 or later.
• Opens/ Saves/ Displays a text file in any of the charactersets that can be handled by UniFEP.
• Especially, for Japanese users, it can recognize the following four Japanese charactersets: SHIFT_JIS, ISO-2022-JP, EUC-JP, and UTF8.
• Depending on your UniFEP version, you may have to install additional softwares called UFCodec from Enfour's web page: ( http://www.enfour.co.jp/psion/development/download/sdk/codec.zip).

JMemo Private Patch version, a Japanese text editor Updated2003/10/21

• JMemo is a Japanese text editor for EPOC which was written by Mr. Koyama. JMemo Private Patch version is a patched version to add some functionalities to the original JMemo.
• Keybindings are 100% user-configurable.
• Supports keyboard macro.
• FAST.
• It runs with or without UniFEP. It runs under UniFEP V2 (UFV2) environment. Under UniFEP environment, Copy & Paste is done by using UTF8 encoded Unicode. Without UniFEP, this is done by KEdit format code (KEC).
• Under UniFEP for EPOC, for 5mx and for Revo, it is possible to use the IM of UFV2 as a FEP for JMemo. In this case, you don't have to install the dictionary for JMemo/KEdit. (Unfortunately, however, this is not true for UniFEP V2. You are forced to use the built-in FEP of JMemo. What a pitty!)
• You have to download and install the Japanese font jiskan.gdr and the "dictionary" (a database used for inputting Japanese using normal keyboard). Visit googo's Psion Search http://www.wotakara.com/googo/navi/navi.cgi to find the font and dictionary originally developed by Mr. Koyama. Even if you cannot read Japanese, you should still be able to find the words "JMemo&KEdit Font" and such on the left side of the page. Just click and that's it.
  • As of Dec 2002, it seems that Mr. Koyama has withdrawn his web page http://antenna.infocity.co.jp/antenna_series5.htm that originally contained these materials.
• A larger dictionary ("SKK-L" dictionary) for a better Kana-Kanji performance can be downloaded from this site. Just go to the table of the softwares at the top of this page.

SKK-L dictionary for JMemo Private Patch Updated 2003/10/21

This is the modified version of "SKK-L" dictionary, developed and maintained by SKK Openlab <http://openlab.ring.gr.jp/skk/index-j.html>.

Note that this is for JMemo Private Patch 20031021 or later. Older versions of JMemo cannot use this.

Private patch (and a patched binary) for the Japanese FEP, KEdit Updated1999/11/13

• KEdit is a program written by Mr. Koyama, to allow the user to input the Japanese characters in some of the EPOC applications such as word, agenda, data and sketch. This patch is to add some functionalities to the original KEdit.
• It runs with or without UniFEP 1.X.
• It doesn't run with UniFEP V2.
• You have to download and install the Japanese font jiskan.gdr and the "dictionary" (a database used for inputting Japanese using normal keyboard) developed by Mr. Koyama. Dictionary tools for KEdit/JMemoUpdated98/11/12

• "mkindex" generates the index file (jisyo.idx) from the dictionary file (jisyo.dic), both of which are needed for the builtin kana-kanji conversion in JMemo/KEdit. See the document here (in Japanese).
• "extract" is a tool to write a tiny part of dictionary file to another file.
• After writing a part of the dictionary file by using "extract", you can edit that file by using text editors. Then you can use "replace" to write the edited file back to the dictionary file.
• Please be sure that you back-up the original dictionary file before you use these tools.

epoc2sjis for WINDOWS ver00, an Agenda<->SJIS text and Word->SJIS text converter for KEdit Updated99/02/10

• This package comprises agn2sjis.exe, sjis2agn.exe, and word2sjis.exe. Using these tools, you can
  • extract all of the entries in EPOC32 Agendna and write it to SJIS text file.
  • add the contents of SJIS text file to EPOC32 Agenda file.
  • extract the content of EPOC32 Word file to SJIS text file.
  on your PC running Windows9x/NT/2000.
• For the Japanese characters, only KEdit codes are supported.
• limitation: You cannot add todo items to an existing Agenda file.
• You need PsiWin CD or C++SDK. See the document for a detail.
• If you are using PsiWin 2.1 or older, you have to install a newer DLL module. See the document for a detail.
• This is an WINC app.
• In the source, kecsjisconv.h, which is responsible for the KEC<->SJIS conversion, is public-domain. Other source codes are derived from the C++ example codes in SDK, so they are distributed in accordance with PSION SOFTWARE SDK LICENSE AGREEMENT.

clp2sjis v0.0, a clipboard to SJIS text converter for KEdit Updated98/8/30

• This program converts the rich text copied to the clipboard to SJIS text.
• Using this program, you can convert, say, a Japanese Word document written by using KEdit to SJIS Japanese text file.
• This program uses RtPaste.opx written by Otfried Cheong. Thank you, Otfried!

• A tiny RPN calculator with 4-stage stack. I needed it, so I wrote it. Sorry, no document, no help, the operation is not self-explanatory. Please see the source code to lern how to use it (!!!).

OPL header for Silkscreen keycode definitions (SilkScreenKeys.TPH) Updated2002/Jan/20

• When you tap silkscreen icons (e.g. Extras icon), they generate key events. This OPL header provides the definitions for the keycodes for such "silkscreen key"s.
