Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance --- United States, 1993
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

In the United States, 72% of all deaths among school-age youth and young adults 5-24 years of age are from only four causes: motor vehicle crashes (30% of all deaths in this age group), other unintentional injuries (12%), homicide (19%), and suicide (11%). Substantial morbidity and social problems also result from the approximately 1 million pregnancies that occur among adolescents and the more than 10 million cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) that occur each year among young persons 15-29 years of age.
