Overall, 56 states reported under the Gun-Free Schools Act (GFSA) for the 1997-98 school year. These states reported that they expelled a total of 3,930 students from school for bringing a firearm to school. Fifty-seven percent of the expulsions by school level were students in high school, 33 percent were in junior high, and 10 percent were in elementary school. These data were reported by school level in 53 states.
