Kruisinga & Eradesは次のような例を挙げている｡
最後に､以下に示す文のように、完全に名詞的特徴を持つ､即ち､その内部に動詞的形態[verbal form]を全く欠いた自由付加詞[free adjuncts]がある。
20. Always a rare spectacle now, and particularly so in London, it seemed the more anachronistic after the orgy of modernity which I had just left (IX.2).

Curmeは「述辞主格[predicate nominative]はasによって導かれる」（CURME, Syntax, 7-A）として次のような例を挙げている｡
'As a teacher, he is a stern disciplinarian.' （ibid）
Zandvoortは次のような例を挙げている｡
(注4) 自由付加詞[free adjunct]には必ず分詞が含まれているわけではない｡
An orphan at six, he was brought up by a distant relative.
To sum up : twelve persons killed, twenty wounded, and considerable material damage done.
