第１節 《分詞構文》と主辞補辞……分詞句の場合

Kruisinga & Eradesは主辞補辞（及び目的辞補辞）を「述辞付加詞」に含めているが、主辞補辞に相当する「述辞付加詞」について、分詞の「名詞句修飾」という働きを語る『現代英文法辞典』の記述に対応するような記述を残している｡
一部の動詞は、動詞に対する付加詞としては働かないが動詞の主辞について何ごとかを述べるために用いられる名詞や形容詞を従える。この場合の述辞語[predicative word]は述辞動詞[predicative verb]によって示される動作や生起の時点における主辞の状況や状態を表現する。述辞付加詞[predicative adjunct]という用語は文のこうした部分にも適用される。（KRUISINGA & ERADES, An English Grammar, 20）(下線は引用者)
「述辞付加詞」を含む次のような文例を挙げている｡
本書のテキスト中にある例としては、
... the five gibbets showed black and skeletal with the five bodies hanging from them .... (I.4);
The ewes lay dead and dying at its foot (III.24);
he looked almost uncannily clean and brushed (II.2).
更に同様の例としては、
He arrived safe and sound ;
he lived and died a bachelor ;
Johnny might end a cabinet minister, a notorious journalist, a Labour leader, anything. . . (Rose Macaulay, Potterism);
