Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2013 Jul 22;7:CD005187では、高齢者施設で勤務する医療従事者へのインフルエンザワクチンの効果は確認できなかった。 Vaccine. 2010 Dec 16;29(2):344-56. （カナダ）でも医療従事者へのインフルエンザワクチンは効果が確認できない。 これらのデータにより、医療従事者のインフルエンザワクチン接種に対して消極的になっている可能性はある。 Journal of Healthcare-associated Infection 2010;2:45-47.によれば日本でも、医療従事者のインフルエンザワクチンの接種率は低い。 インフルエンザワクチンを摂取しない理由は複数あり、不要と考えるという医療従事者もいる。 Occup Environ Med. 2012;69:230-5.によれば海外でも同じ状況である。 いかにしてワチン接種率を上げるかが公衆衛生上問題になっている（Am J Infect Control. 2013;41:697-701.）。

これに反論する意見 2013年9月のClin Infect Dis. 2013 Sep 17の報告では、医療従事者へのインフルエンザウイルスは入院患者の死亡リスクを7割程度まで下げる。 入院やインフルエンザの確定的な診断の付いた症例は減らなかったが、全死亡は減少した。 インフルエンザ様の疾患の患者も減った。 医療従事者へのインフルエンザワクチン接種は患者の安全性を高める。 Clin Infect Dis. 2014 Jan;58(1):50-7. doi: 10.1093/cid/cit580.
